Glue It: #1 Teacher Door Decor Contest

Fun, Fame, and Food Prizes

We had a door decorating contest for the teachers at my school last week,
and spring was the theme.

There's nothing like healthy competition to get your creative juices flowing,
and teachers were cutting and gluing bulletin board paper 'till all hours at night!
This was serious ya'll: lunches from a restaurant were the prizes for the winning door.

I went... I saw...
I couldn't wait to share with you
the awesomeness that bloomed up and down our hallways.

My team's door:

This ginormous ladybug is spread across my double library doors
and represents the love you know kids have
for their Specials classes: PE, Art, Library and Music.

Miss Ladybug's smile reads "Don't bug me, I'm in Specials!"
She's holding a book titled Lots of Little Ladybugs
and her wings are dimensional
because they appear to flutter in and out.

Did you notice the ladybug antenas are punctuated with red balloons?

Art teacher Sarah Ascher, Coach Gillie Freeman and I
had a blast putting this door decoration up. It's cute!

Glue It Tuesday: Juried Art Show Fail

For Artsyville's New Art Challenge

"Glue It Tuesday"

I have a story of artistic failure and redemption to share that I'll call

"My Juried Art Show Fail"

A super-cool community sort of near The Stylish Studio
put out a call to artists for entries
in a juried art show.
It's been almost a year now,
and the sting of my art show fail is fading from my memory
and mercifully it didn't destroy my resolve to keep on keeping on with my mixed media art.

Good news/Bad News

Good News: I thoroughly enjoyed the artistic process!

First I went to the website of the super-cool community
 and observed an equally super-cool
clean, crisp, white, and botanical municipal logo.

Here's my wildflower in the design process
with proof there was plenty of gluing and cutting involved.

Location: my kitchen table

Here you see my finished piece.
It is a wildflower collage made from magazine papers I selected,  and I love it.
It is 10 x 13", mounted on a white background, and framed in a very nice black wooden frame.

I call it "Texas Jewel" because of the jewel tones of the papers I selected,
and because of legendary Texas wildflowers such as the Indian Paintbrush and the Fire Wheel.

List It Tuesday: Childhood Games

Me, the lone girl in this photo, rocking some hand-me-down clothes
from my boy cousins from Texas, where I thought all the fun people lived.
Also shown are my little brothers.
I'm posing on our pony at my parents' acreage in southwest rural Oklahoma.

My Childhood Games

*Is a Shetland pony a game?  If so count in Trigger, a pony our grandpa bought and kept where we lived.  I could actually run and jump up on from behind Trigger like in the movies!  Wow, that's so unlike the bookworm I was and still am. I'm actually what you'd call an "Indoor Girl." Trigger had a saddle, probably, but we rode it bareback, like in the photo. Now that's riding a pony!

When Life Gives You Springtime: Creative Displays

It's spring fever.
That is what the name of it is.
And when you've got it, you want---
oh, you don't know what it is you want,
but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
~Mark Twain

It is Spring Break and the perfect time to share some
vibrant spring creativity that sprouted up recently in my amazing world:

"Eat a Rainbow"

For National Nutrition Month
School Nurse Amy decorated her clinic bulletin board with a message that means
we should eat a variety of colored fruit and vegetables.
We also wore clothing to school that was a certain color of the rainbow each day last week.
Fun use of color!
